Literacy

Check out our Kauri tree. It is covered in information about animals and plants who need the Kauri tree.

We are learning about probability in maths for the next two weeks.

We watched the story Maui and the sun and then worked in pairs to sort out the objects.

Kauri Trees

This week Room 2 have been doing lots of learning about Kauri Tree's during reading and writing. This came about because our team song talks about growing from a seed into a Kauri tree but we didn't really know much about Kauri tree's.

We read articles about animals and plants that need the Kauri tree forest to survive. We highlighted words that we didn't know how to say or were not sure of the meaning. Some of these articles were tricky but we didn't give up.

Then we started writing reports about these plants and animals.

Here is our class Kauri tree. The trunk was made from recycled lunch order bags. We are going to cover it with information and facts. Watch this space!!!

We have also been taking part in a virtual field trip with Learnz. We take part in the fieldtrip by watching the daily video updates. This helps us learn more about Kauri tree's.

Next week we will be finishing and publishing our reports and learning about what is threatening Kauri tree's at the  moment.

Check out Room 2 during reading this morning!

This week we have been learning to write recounts.

Here we are making butter. Tomorrow we are going to try it and write our recount.

We have been reading a lovely book Rosie from Rosie's world sent us. It is all about how Rosie uses Active Thinking to solve a problem. We have also learned a few things about milk and cows at the same time.

Here is a link to Rosie's World. There are lots of great games and a few competitions on this website.

Ahoy me hearties

This week, as part of our author study on Julia Donaldson, we are reading her book The Troll. In the story there is a pirate ship with funny pirates on it. Today to hook us into writing our teacher got us to make pirate ships like the one in the book.

We had to work together with a buddy to follow the instructions and put it all together.

Tomorrow we will make a sail for our ship and then we are going to write a recount.
To write a good recount we have to write our ideas in order and include how we felt when we were making the pirate ship. We also need to include who, what, when, where and why.

Today we led the Kakano assembly. We got to sing one of our favourite songs called 'Kaha the Kea'. It's about a cheeky Kea who takes things. We sang this song because we drew and painted Kea for our art attack. Soon we will put photos of these paintings on this blog but if you want to see them before that you should come and visit our classroom.
