Multicultural Week

During week 4, term 1, Oaklands School celebrated multicultural week.  The highlight of the week was Thursday.  Thank you to Jeanine who came and taught Room 2 about the Netherlands.  On Thursday afternoon the whole school attended a special assembly/concert that included music, singing and dancing.

On Friday Room 2, along with the rest of Oaklands School went to Jelly Park.  Thanks to Tim, Geoff, Lisa and Kat who came with us as parent helpers.

This year Room 2 are going to be taught by Mrs Donna McLeod on Wednesdays.  This Wednesday the children worked on an art project, producing watercolour paintings that include a statement about themselves.  The paintings were completed on Thursday.  The concept of this project can be viewed at http://ourartlately.blogspot.co.nz/2012/11/the-spectrum-of-our-personalities.html

Hello and welcome to the first Room 2 blog of 2016!  We have had an exciting week.  This week has provided a good opportunity for the children to become familiar with their new classroom, classroom procedures and also to get to know the other children they will be learning with during 2016.

On Wednesday the class had a lesson with John Parsons, a visiting cyber-safety expert.  The Oaklands community picnic was held on Wednesday evening and was well attended.

The children are settling well into their new class and adapting to the transition from summer holidays to term 1.  I have had the chance to meet a number of Room 2 parents already before and after school and I look forward to meeting with parents next Tuesday and Wednesday evening.
